Whether Technology is Beneficial in Learning

Technology can be helpful at times in learning.

With many teenagers being highly digitally-literate, they are no strangers to the world of modern technology.

They are familiar with the many different functions of technology. So, how do we use all this skills and channel it in the RIGHT direction -- by effectively implementing it into learning?

Starting off with the English Language, for instance, there are numerous dictionary/thesaurus sites which can be easily accessed by simply switching on the modem and typing the word into Google search. From there, many MANY sites can be easily accessed. All with a simple click of the mouse!

But of course, technology can be a major distractions at times. The computer, which can access Internet, can be a hindrance or a big help at times. The Internet can be a dangerous place, it has  social networking sites, such as facebook, which can be very distracting. When the use of computers is required in class, some students may seize this opportunity to surf the web for matters not related to studies, for example, as mentioned above, social networking sites.
Especially when we are in a school where there is wireless WiFi, students may take advantage of it and even download their movies, causing the whole network to slow down.
But what can we do? This IS the 21st century, modern technology exist. We must be tech-savvy in order to be able to survive in an age like this.

  1. In school, technology is beneficial to teachers in education. It makes record keeping easier for both grading and attendance. Keeping records on the computer lessens paperwork and makes calculating totals easier and more accurate. Technology allows teachers to create data driven instruction. Through the Internet, more accurate information is obtainable more quickly. Technology such as computer software and digital cameras enable teachers to produce better looking, "student friendly", teacher made materials much faster than by hand. Finally, technology helps teachers produce multimedia and information sources such as websites, presentations, and customized computer based instruction for use in the classroom.

I'm addicted to the fish at the side . How awesome technology is. It can both be good or bad. It can help in studies yet it can get us addicted and reject our studies. I know that some schools have started using laptops and more complicated technology. I hope as these privilaged students appreciate it and not misuse it for other means (negative) .

  10. Yes, I strongly agree with Jean. Technology can be very helpful and useful at times. For instance, when we are reseaching for something when we are doing a project, instead of flipping through the thick encyclopaedia, we can simply type out what we would like to research on and a long list of results would appear. However, there had been many newspaper reports whereby some teenagers get addicted to online games. When they are suddenly stopped from playing these online games, they would feel as if their life is incomplete. There was even a case when a teenager murdered his own mother because his mother stopped him from playing online games. Today, I have a very important messageto convey to all parents: Do check on what your children are doing online even when you are very busy with your on work, or else, everything would be too late.
